DESIGNED IN BERGAMO

OUR HISTORY

LA NOSTRA STORIA

Limar was founded in 1986 in the historic Northern Italian town of Bergamo, Italy. It was the early days of performance cycling helmets and Limar was in the front of the pack from the beginning. One of our earliest collaborations was with the great Italian World Champion, Gianni Bugno. Gianni had three simple challenges for Limar: make it “compatto, leggero e veloce” - make it compact, light and fast. These three ideals still compel us every day, and inspire us to keep designing and building the world's finest racing helmets for our sport’s greatest champions.

THE LIGHTEST EVER

Sculpted by hand in Felice Manzoni's small studio in Bergamo, Limar quickly became famous in the World Tour for providing the lightest helmets in the peloton. At a slight 160 grams, the Limar Ultralight racing helmet changed the game.

ASTANA'S ROAD TO VICTORY

Limar helmets have been raced in the Pro peloton for the past 30 seasons. Most-notably the last 3 seasons with Pro Tour super-team, Astana. With the help of the Boardman Performance Center in the UK, all Limar helmets not only pass Astana’s scrutiny, but that of the world’s biggest wind tunnel.

1986

Backed by over 20 years of EPS molding experience, the Limar team sets its sights on the emerging high performance cycling helmet market.

1988

After an intensive period of R&D, Limar introduces its first cycling helmet, the CICLO L3—notable for its unique shape, comfort pads, striking fluorescent colors and light weight. At LIMAR Lightweight design has been a core value since day one.

1990

Limar introduces thermoformed plastic shells to increase protection and safety: PRIMO is the first helmet with an emphasis on aerodynamic performance for professional riders: Limar dials up it's MTB commitment by sponsoring MTB Athletes.

1993

1994

Limar launches the F104, the first helmet developed with sophisticated CAD technology. A product with the highest performance in terms of style, ventilation and aerodynamics. We also set our sights on developing the world’s lightest bike helmet, featuring an innovative retention system to offer perfect fit for every user.

1997

Limar wins the coveted "premio Compasso d’oro”, the oldest and most prestigious industrial design award in the world, for the F104 helmet.

1999

Limar creates the first In-Mold helmet - the F107. A process in which the outershell is co-molded with EPS foam during the production process. This fusion process adds structural integrity to the helmet, further decreasing weight. The F107 also introduces an innovative new fit system developed in collaboration with our growing ranks of professional racers.
